Outlook Sync Beta

Postby mddmx » Thu May 28, 2009 12:30 pm

For anyone that is using the Chaos Sync for Outlook tool, please feel free to download and provide feedback on our new Outlook Sync tool. It uses the same password as the current release version. The address is http://www.chaossoftware.com/beta/outlooksyncsetup.exe

Should you wish to try it and do not have the password, just send a quick email to support09@chaossoftware.com and we will reply with one.

The most significant improvement is its "almost shockingly fast speed".

Downloaded it... used the old password. Very nice interface. No need to do any mapping as of yet. Love the transfer of notes....This was missing in the old version. Very nice work mddmx.

Mike,

When I go to Step 2 in the mapping, the Outlook fields are not displayed except when selected. I couldn't tell what to do until I used my cursor to move down. In Step 3 the Outlook fields are displayed in light gray.

BTW, it would have been nice to automatically move the mapping from the earlier version. Fortunately, I saved mine in an Excel spreadsheet.

With regard to the mapping steps, does Step 2 make sense now that you have clicked in those areas? Do you feel there could be a better explanation on that screen?

Step 2 will become disabled after you save or cancel your changes. This is to indicate/force the need to start the process over at step 1.

With regard to the mapping, the older version allowed for some fields to be mapped which should not have been allowed. Also, the older version was based on the older versions of the Time & Chaos data which had some different fields available as well. This is all to say a new set of mapping was needed.

I think that the Outlook fields in Step 2 should also be in light gray and highlighted when selected.

Good explanation for the change in mapping. I can still use my spreadsheet as a guide when mapping the custom fields that I use.

Calendar, Tasks and Memos seem to sync with no issues. Syncing Contacts results in an "Interface not supported." error.

"Interface not supported". Interesting. What version of Windows and Outlook are you using? Also, are you attempting a one way sync when receiving this error? Have you modified any of the mapping?

This issue may actually be specific to the mail part of Outlook. Have you ever setup Outlook to send and receive email messages? Can you open the mail section of Outlook?

Win XP SP3 with Outlook 2003 SP3. It's on my office machine and I use Outlook email throughout the day.

I created a new, empty Intellect dataset to test. I ran the syncs one at a time (the other 3 set to Do Nothing) with Synchronize selected. I used the default mappings. Everything but contacts synced into Intellect.

Oh...I'm running from the USB stick but I get the same results on the PC.

Running May 27 Intellect Beta. Windows XP SP3. Office 2007.

Did my mapping and synced without any problems. Very fast.

You really removed a lot of the Outlook and Intellect fields that I had been using.

I believe all the fields removed were either removed due to not existing any more in modern Time & Chaos or not being a writable field in Outlook. Fields like Last Modified Date which really shouldn't be written to.

Let me know the most important fields for you and I'll see if anything can be done or if a field was perhaps accidentally removed from the list.
