ChaosSync for Outlook to Nokia & Other Phones

Ideally, you should be able to sync T&C/!ntellect directly to your phone/PDA, but for some devices, this is not possible. An alternate way is to use Outlook as the conduit/hub to the device. Most devices come with software to sync to Outlook. By using ChaosSync for Outlook, you can successfully do 2 way sync to your device. Below is an example of how to successfully sync T&C/!ntellect phone numbers to a Nokia phone. Hopefully, it can give some of you ideas of how to sync to your device.

T&C Phone -------- Outlook --------- Nokia PC Suite

1 (Business) ------- Bus Tel ----------- Bus phone
2 (Home) ---------- Home Tel -------- Home phone
3 (Cellular) -------- Mobile Tel ------- Gen mobile
4 (Fax) ------------ Bus Fax ----------- Bus fax
    5 (Mailto) --------- Email1------------- Gen email
    6 (Business2) ----- Other Tel --------- Gen phone
    7 (Cellular2) ------ Other Fax --------- Gen Fax
8 (URL/Mailto2) - Bus home page --- Gen web address
Using T&C 7.0.4.2, ChaosSync for Outlook 2.0.0.3, Nokia PC Suite 7.1.40.6 on a Win XP SP3 laptop. Sync works both ways. Recommend that T&C be master source of data, and for the first sync, push data from T&C to Outlook to Nokia.

ChaosSync for Outlook can map almost all T&C/!ntellect phone numbers to Outlook's various fields. Outlook's "Business Tel2" is the only phone field that did not work in the sync.

The limitation is on the Nokia side, which uses Nokia PC Suite (and now moving to Nokia OVI Suite) which has fixed and limited fields. There is no mapping tool. For example, can populate Email1, Email2, Email3 from T&C to Outlook, but only Email1 is synced to Nokia PC Suite. Hence the workaround to use the home page/web address for a second email. Also, using other fax/gen fax as placeholder for second cell - who has 2 fax numbers these days ? :o

So, the success of a 2 way sync using Outlook as a conduit/hub is dependent on how good your device syncs with Outlook. Unfortunately, the only way to find out is to experiment and test things. If you can get the information from your phone/pda to Outlook, then there is a good chance that it will sync with T&C/!ntellect.

What model Nokia are you using? I use a Nokia E71 and sync with ChaosHost.

Nokia N82; did not go down route of ChaosHost because already owned ChaosSync for Outlook, and also have added complication of linking in a Corporate calendar and email.

Last but not least, not using over the air sync.
