I don't like Outlook - that's why I use intellect - but I've always had to maintain an Outlook installation to sync with my PDA or more recently a Nokia E71. Recent self-inflicted problems with ChaosSync forced me to look wider - sadly Chaos Host doesn't support Symbian but I've found a viable (and free) alternative, using ChaosSync for Google and Nokia's Mail for Exchange.
Download ChaosSync for Google from the Chaos downloads page and install it.
Make sure all the data in Intellect/T&C is as you want it.
You'll need a Google account. Set it up if necessary. If you already have one with Calendar and Contacts data then erase all these - this is important if you're not going to get duplicate entries where there are slight differences in the way the records are stored.
Use the GoogleSync from Intellect/T&C, with the latter set to override the Google data.
Now go to your phone. Back up then clear all calendar and contact data for the same reason as above. There is an option to do this automatically when you first sync as below.
The phone may already have Mail for Exchange - if not you can download it for free from from the Nokia Ovi Store. Once installed it will ask you to set up a profile. Follow the instructions here http://www.google.com/mobile/sync/
Note that Google tells you to leave "domain" blank but initially my phone didn't like that. I just typed a space into the box and the profile accepted that.
Once your profile is created you can sync for the first time. I'd recommend using the "full resync" option which erases the current data on your phone. Once complete you'll then need to do a normal sync and you should find everything is loaded in from Google.
Mail for Exchange will do constant synchronisation if you wish, but that will drain your battery and is unnecessary if you're not collecting mail. I set everything to manual, and then created a link on my phone's home screen so I can do a sync with just three key presses.
Back in ChaosSync for Google set the options to "synchronize changes since ..." (it's an automatic entry showing the time of your last sync).
Now you can make changes on your phone, sync them with Google, and then they'll appear in Intellect/T&C - albeit without Group classification - and vice versa.
If you like you can go into the contacts on Google and upload photos of the contact - which will then appear in your phone's contact database (the picture appears when they call you, which is useful if like me your eyes struggle to read text without glasses), You need to do a full resync on your phone if you add photos later and want them to appear on the phone.
You can't sync tasks at either end - there is an option to do so in Mail for Exchange but if you activate it you'll get an error message - so you'll have to leave proper task management to intellect/T&C (since I carry a portable version of the database it's not an issue).
So for all you Nokia users I hope this is useful. According to Google you can treat other mobile OSs in the same way, but I can't vouch for them. And of course this does tie you to Google, but that seems a small price to pay for a life completely free of Outlook.
