Easy method to link entries between modules

Postby wmcneil » Sat Jun 12, 2010 8:52 pm

I just had a brainstorm and came up with this relatively simple way to link entries in different modules, tested it, and it works great.

Needed: password generator (I use the password generator tool in Lastpass (which I love), but there are others both online and as small, free "utility" applications).

Example:
In my Appointments module, I have an appointment once a week to update a list of things I love
However, I wanted the list in "table" (thus sortable) form, which is not a feature in Appointments, only in the "Memos and Lists" module.

Since I have a lot of memos (and lists!), to reduce the amount of clicking around and go directly to the correct list, I "link" from the Appointment to the "Memos and Lists" entry and use Quick Find to go right to my list.

Here's how:
  1. Use the password generator to generate a 6-digit password(6 digits should be plenty, since I set my generator to produce random upper and lower case + include numbers + include symbols).
  2. Copy the newly-generated password
  3. Paste the password in the Notes tab of the Appointment
  4. Paste the password in the Notes tab of the "Memos and Lists" entry

Voila! There is now a unique "link" between the Appointment and the list. When it comes time to update my list, I open up the Appointment, go to the Notes tab, copy the unique "link", paste it into Quick Find (at the top right corner of every module), press "Enter" and go quickly to my list!

Works like a charm! Enjoy... :P

Hi mcneil

Interesting. I'll have to play with that, since I kind of need something similar.

However, it makes me think: Can we insert one of those hotlinks up in the Phone Labels panel? It might jump straight to it with fewer clicks.
