Unable to create an HTML message

Postby mamared » Mon Jul 26, 2010 5:47 pm

Hello to all!

My first post here...although I've been using Chaos Intellect for about 1.5 years. I signed on today and cannot create an HTML message, although I sent out messages yesterday with no problem whatsoever.

I can add the "to" and "Subject just fine ... but when I either tab to the message body or try to position my cursor there, I can't get an insertion point.

I can create/send a message if I switch to "Text" mode.

The only difference I know of is Norton Ghost was configured for my system.

Any thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions?

Need additional information to do troubleshooting (I wasn't quite sure what all was needed). I am on 3.0.4.2.

Hi and welcome aboard. First to understand what you are doing.

You pull down the New Message Window and select an HTML template and when the message opens, there is no HTML Tab. Is that correct?

Have you tried it with a few different templates? (possible corrupt template)
Have you tried the convert to HTML from the text message Edit menu?
Does Internet Explorer work ok on your machine and is it up to date? Chaos uses IE for viewing HTML.

Hi Steve

Thanks for the response! How kind of you.

I select "New Message" (my default stationary is blank HTML)
I DO get an HTML tab

I've tried using different stationary options and I have the same issue. I get to the "Message" area and can't see anything I type.

I can switch to "Text" mode and I can type anything with no issues.

I haven't checked Internet Explorer (since I use Firefox). I'll give that a check. Is there a specific version I need to make sure I have?

Update...I've got Internet Explorer 7 loaded...the odd thing is that it worked one day and not the next.

Should I upgrade IE even tho I'm not using it as my primary browser?

Hi Steve (and anyone else who might be reading this thread):

I updated to Explorer 8.0 to see if that would help and by gum it did. THanks Steve for the suggestion. Since I don't use Explorer and everything had worked fine less than 24 hours prior to my post, I wasn't sure. FIgured it was worth a try.

All is well now!

Glad it worked for you. The rule is that you HAVE to update IE and you have to keep updating it and all the security patches etc. because lots of programs use the viewer library that is part of it. Even programs you'd never imagine like Quickbooks! I never use IE for browsing, like you, but there are so many programs that use the components of it that I must keep it updated.

Many of us would prefer to use the Mozilla viewer (Geiko) but can only hope for that option in an upcoming release.
