Beta Download Locations

Postby JustDave » Mon Jan 12, 2009 6:20 pm

From time to time the good folk at Chaos Software make beta releases of their software available. Those betas may be downloaded via the links below. If there's no beta available, you'll simply get a "page not found" message. I'll check the betas regularly and note the file timestamp under each link. If anyone catches a new beta before I do, let me know and I'll update that link.

Note that the beta version will overwrite your existing install. Always keep a copy of the current release xxxsetup.exe in case you need or want to go back.

I'm curious. I've never heard of ChaosWrite. Is it an add-on to Chaos !ntellect? What function does it perform?

Yes. Chaos Write is a free addon to Time and Chaos and !ntellect. It is a great word processor. Very fast and integrates extremely well. Based upon my knowledge development has been stopped. It was intended to be a word processor that functions very well and not a replacement for Office.....

ilvey . . I always interprete the word 'Beta' to mean 'not yet officially released, use at your own risk'. It usually means its still in 'testing' stage and outwith the scope of the developer's 'Support' network so you cant get help on it.
Worth noting that GMail is still in 'Beta', with a trillion users!

Ralph - Betas aren't always available, though I will confirm with Michael that that's the correct link.

ilvey - Stuart is correct, though Chaos betas seem to have fewer problems than many others I've had the "pleasure" of running. To answer your other question, the beta will overwrite your existing install. Always keep a copy of your current release setup file so you can go back if you need to. I keep several releases on my Updates partition.

The T&C7 link is good. I've updated the original post with an explanation.
