problem/question with sync and iPhone

Postby markeh » Sun Jan 18, 2009 1:34 pm

I have been trying the Google sync, and it seems to work fine. But I also use Google on my iPhone - and there is a problem. I'm not sure its related to Intellect, but maybe someone here has a suggestion, or can confirm the problem.

On the iPhone, you can either use Google Gmail in the normal "browser" mode (tiny type, scroll around) or a version customized for the iPhone.

On the browser version (and also on my big system) all of the contacts are there.

On the iPhone version, my contacts don't show up. It only shows "Most Contacted", which has zero contacts, and I don't see a way to change to another contact group. I can search for a specific contact, so I know they are there, but scrolling the list is most useful for me.

What I really want is to be able change contact groups.

Any suggestions?? Does anyone else have the same problem??

thnx,

Mark:

I'm using the ipod touch, and am thinking about the iphone. In sequence, No problem getting chaos data to sync with google. getting from google to the i-touch required the mobile me sync and it worked for contacts but not for my schedule.

The good news for me is that I was still in the 60-day free trial on mobileme thing and gave it up. I tried Chaos Host, which is great, and the "not-quite-a-beta" sync to the iphone/ipod touch that's there. Yes, technically it's an Alpha release, but it's still great and works like a charm.

The irony is that the mobile me thing wanted $100 a year as does Chaos Host. I'm MUCH happier sending that to Chaos Software and keeping Mike (and his creditors) happy.

I know that its not a great idea to respond to a post that's more than a year and a half old, but, a couple of things.

I am in the same situation at this time - trying to figure out the best way to keep my Chaos, Google, and iPhone4 contacts synchronized and accurate.

I noted the comments about MobileMe. There is at least one thing that MMe does that Chaos Host does not - it can track/find your phone if it gets lost. And I lost my first iPhone last year and was not able to recover it. I bought MMe this time around to try to protect me from a lost phone.

So, I am going to try to work through synching contacts and appointments through MMe.

Right now, I have had great success synching the appointments via Google Sync and Gmail's internal linkage to the iPhone (or vice versa). But I am very concerned about synching contacts with Gmail and the iPhone, because I have about 5000 names in Chaos and with the last phone, something happened in this process and I got duplicate records in both the phone and gmail, and I got many records on the iPhone with only email addresses, coming from the Gmail system.

So, I am going to try MobileMe and see whether it works and can hold things constant.
