sync going one way?

Postby gamebird » Tue Jul 27, 2010 9:23 am

Tried to change a phone number on my droid incredible. It lasted a while, then reverted back to the original phone number. It's as if the sync from ChaosHost is going one way...rather than the MOST RECENT item entered being the one that stays, it's the item on Chaos Host that overrides the item on the Droid...IS there a setting I should be looking at?

What software are you using on your droid to sync? MFE? Are you using Chaos Host, or google sync for chaos?

I am using chaosHost for syncing. I've set it up to sync manually so I can do it using wifi, but i wish it could sync automatically - mostly for e-mail. You can't have it sync exchange manually and mail auto - it;s all one way or the other.

It sounds like there are some issues with android syncing in general. I mentioned in anotehr post that I used a program called RoadSync, which seemed to work pretty well. I use exchange sync on a Nokia phone for contacts and appointments, and pop for email. Not sure if using that service with android would work or not, but it's worth a shot.

I think your mention of Road sync was in response to a post by me regarding this same issue - can't delete or change a calendar item, but i can add a new item on my Droid Inc. I have another new problem - i mysteriously lost about 100 contacts - thank goodness I had the backup and was able to get them back.

So I think this may indeed get to the syncing software. I realize I did not answer your question...what software do i use to sync...is the "exchange ActiveSync" that came on my D'inc. an answer? If you get another sync program how does that work with Excange Active Sync? Does Road Sync sync automatically?

yes, RoadSync does sync automatically and they have a droid app. It is working on my nokia s60 really well, I would recommend checking it out. It does work with Active Exchange Sync, but has it's own interface. I could not get Exchange to work at all on my phone, so i bought roadsync and it works well and automatically based on a shcedule that you set.

Thank you!!! Road Sync fixed MOST of my issues...Pictures now stick with contacts...favorites stay in place...
you have no idea at how overjoyed I am to have the pictures associated with the contacts!!! And to have favorites available again!!! I am thrilled and will buy full version.

however the problem of deleting and modifying appointments persists - I delete an appointment and Chaos Host beams my droid and says "put it back in!!!"

I just created a calendar event in the droid and it went straight to chaoshost. However when i modified a calendar event and synced, it did not modify on chaoshost. However, chaoshost did not impose itself on my droid and force the unmodified calendar event back on the droid.

The workaround - ON the droid - delete events by creating new events with 'xxx' that will mean delete on the chaos host end. Modify events by creating new events with "aaa" which will mean modify on the host end. Not ideal...

Does anybody think that Froyo will solve these problems or make them worse?

weird. there are no options in chaoshost other than the amount of time forward and backward that should sync. is there an option in roadsync which sets the priority if there is a conflict? or is there an option to merge or overwrite the data? seems like there was an option when i first set up road sync, but I'm not sure. i would contact their support with questions.

Ok there are a lot of players here: Chaos, road sync, android phone, Exchange server. I'm no techie....But now i have another problem and i am not sure whom to blame. 120-odd Contacts disappeared from my phone. When I checked T+C all 1056 contacts were there. when I checked Chaos Host there were 931 contacts. When I checked on the Android: people/view..I got 931 contacts from road sync and 836 from Exchange.

I wiped out all the contacts from Chaos host, ran the database tools on T+C and resynced. NOw both have 1056 contacts. i am now in the process of deleting all the contacts from the Android so I can perform another road sync. but.... what caused the difference between Host and T+C? Could it have been the Droid? Why would that happen? I have the full version of Road Sync but there is nary a human with which to communicate there...this is unsatisfactory - this is about the 9thor 10th time i have re-set up my pictures, ring tones, etc. I can't trust the phone to have all my data - do i have to resort to carrying my old palm which synced flawlessly with chaossync for Palm?

Are you using RoadSync and Exchange to sync contacts? If so, that may be your problem. When I setup RoadSync on my Nokia, it specifically mentioned that you should not sync anything that was being synced with another program.

How are you syncing email, contacts, appointments and tasks? Specifically, what are you using to sync each?
